Samsung appears to be delaying the rollout of its Android 17 update, with the release schedule changing in at least some regions. The company had previously announced that Galaxy S26 owners would be among the first to receive the new software through One UI 9, but the update has yet to show up as widely as expected.

Samsung announced the stable One UI 9 rollout last week, marking the beginning of its Android 17 update cycle. As usual, the company planned to start with its latest flagship smartphones before gradually expanding the update to additional Galaxy devices.

The Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra were expected to kick things off. Samsung specifically said that the rollout would begin on September 16, giving users a fairly clear idea of when they could expect to see the update arrive.

However, September 16 has now passed, and the update does not appear to have reached users as expected.

Reports from Galaxy S26 owners also suggest that the rollout has not started broadly. Users on Reddit have been discussing the missing update, with some waiting for the stable One UI 9 release despite Samsung’s original announcement.

At this point, Samsung has not provided a clear explanation for the apparent delay. It is also possible that the company is adjusting the rollout on a region-by-region basis rather than completely stopping the release. Samsung frequently stages major software updates, so availability can vary depending on the country, carrier, device model, and other factors.

Still, there is evidence that Samsung has changed its schedule in at least one market.

Samsung changes One UI 9 release date

As SamsunGuru spotted, Samsung’s Newsroom in Thailand has changed the release information for the One UI 9 update several times.

A Samsung Press release originally listed September 21 as the date for the rollout. That date was later moved to September 28.

Interestingly, the page now appears to have been updated again. Instead of providing a specific launch date, Samsung’s announcement now simply refers to September 2026.

That change doesn’t necessarily mean that the entire Android 17 rollout has been pushed back globally. However, it does indicate that Samsung’s original schedule is no longer being followed exactly in at least one market.

For users, that could mean a little more waiting before the stable update arrives on their phones.

Why could Samsung be delaying the update?

Samsung has not officially explained why the rollout appears to be taking longer than initially planned, so the exact reason remains unclear.

One possibility is that Samsung has discovered an issue during the final stages of testing and wants to address it before releasing the update more broadly. Major Android updates involve a huge number of hardware configurations, regional software versions, carriers, and services, so even a release that has already gone through beta testing can encounter problems once it reaches a wider audience.
